It's been just short of 4 years since I made a post about an anime on my blog, I've been getting into Asian drama's more so my love for anime and manga took a back seat as I slowly lost some interest in it. Thankfully though Skye has recently got into watching Naruto which has fired up my love and interest for anime again and I thought what better way to get back into than re-starting Tokyo Ghoul and introducing Skye to the franchise.

Tokyo Ghoul is a Japanese anime series based upon the manga series written by Sui Ishida. Season 1 of the anime is written by Chuji Mikasano, directed by Shuhei Morita and produced by Ken Hagino, Hajime Maruyama, Yoshito Danna & Hidetada Soga.
The 1st season originally aired from the 4th of July until the 19th of September 2014, and ran for 12 episodes.

Opening
Unravel - TK from Ling Toshite Sigure

Ending
聖者たち (The Saints) - people in the box

The story follows Ken Kaneki, a college student who barely survives a deadly encounter with Rize Kamishiro, his date who reveals herself as a ghoul. He is taken to the hospital in critical condition. After recovering, Kaneki discovers the he underwent surgery that transformed him into a half-ghoul. This was accomplished because some of Rize's organs were transferred into his body, and now, like normal ghouls, he must consume human flesh to survive.
The ghouls who manage the coffee shop 'Anteiku' take him in and teach him to deal with his new life as a half-ghoul.
Some of his daily struggles include fitting into the ghoul society, as well as keeping his identity hidden from his human companions, especially from his best friend Hideyoshi Nagachika.

I got into Tokyo Ghoul via the manga back in 2015 and decided to give the anime a try, back then though I only got 1 episode into season 2, so recently decided to watch it again starting from season 1. I forgot how much I enjoyed it the first time round, even on the second time watching it had me hooked from the first episode, even Skye seemed like she was hooked. Season 1 has for me, memorable opening and ending songs, as soon as I hear them it takes me right back to the series. As dark and gruesome as the series is, personally I can't help but feel sorry for some of the ghouls, and as a viewer it's because of Kaneki that we really learn about them. We start off the first episode being told they're something bad and something to fear, but as you go through the season you come to know there are ghouls that want to live normal lives and some that come to learn there's more to life than being a ghoul.
It's sad that just being born as a ghoul means that your life means less because of something you cannot control, something we see a lot with Kaneki. In the end he has to rely on being a ghoul for strength but he needs his humanity to keep him grounded.

We've completed season 2 which is Tokyo Ghoul Root A and we're ready to start season 3, I really recommend this anime series, as well as the manga. I've just purchased the live action film, so can't wait to see if it lives up to my expectations, even 5 years later it still remains an anime I love to watch and still keeps me hooked and coming back again.
All 3 seasons of Tokyo Ghoul are available to watch on Netflix.

Have you watched season 1 of Tokyo Ghoul?
Are you a fan of the 1st season?
Are you a fan of the franchise?
Do you have ay favourite characters?

Fangirl Monthly: April Box

Hello
Annyeong
Konnichiwa

Google Images
Shall we see if I guessed correctly at the end of my March box on what we'd get in the April box for Tokyo Ghoul.
Tokyo Ghoul is one of the few series' that I got into through the Manga, which in turn made me want to check out the anime, I love the artwork for the manga covers which was one of the reasons I decided to give it a try, while I'm really behind in reading the manga and have only watched season 1 of the anime, it still remains a series that I'm excited by and back in October 2015 it took the No.2 spot of my Top 5 Halloween Week Special: Monster Style Anime's. I do think the Tokyo Ghoul box would have been more suited for the October box but I'm still glad the show gets a feature in a subscription box like this.

First up we have an EXCLUSIVE TOKYO GHOUL POSTCARD PRINT, with the artwork done by Mayu Matsumoto. I would have been shocked if the postcard print wasn't of Kaneki as I think for any anime fan especially Tokyo Ghoul their first thoughts would be of the 2 sides of Ken Kaneki, his human side and the Ghoul within him. I like how the print seems to show the Ghoul within him eating away at his human self.

Next we have our CUSTOM LYCORIS RADIATA COTTON JEWELRY POUCH, I love that Fangirl Monthly go that extra mile and create these pouches to keep the items in, I keep my jewelry etc inside them when I'm not wearing them and I keep them in their coordinated pouches. The Lycoris Radiata is a flower also known as a Red Spider Lily, many people believe that the flower is associated with death, so only plant them on graves as it shows a tribute to the dead, which I think fits well with the Tokyo Ghoul theme.

Next we have a KEN KANEKI MASK PENDANT NECKLACE, I may not have guessed correctly for it to be a pin/broach but I guessed correctly in that we would get something featuring the shows famous mask. Anyone familiar with the series whether they watch it or not will think of Kaneki's infamous Ghoul mask when they hear about the show, it's personally my favourite mask from the series. It hides his while face minus his left eye which is red revealing the Ghoul that resides inside him. Personally for me this isn't a necklace I would wear, I think it has a more masculine look and feel to it than a feminine look. The chain is quite short leaving the mask to sit high up on the chest. I personally feel too that it would have looked better coloured like the actual mask with a black chain but other than that it's a pretty amazing necklace and I'm sure there were plenty of subscribers happy with it.

Next we have a TOUKA KIRISHIMA BUNNY MASK NECKLACE, you may be wondering why they seem to wear masks, well it hides their identity as Ghouls meaning they can live as humans and have an attempt at living a somewhat normal life, the only wear their masks when they are fighting as ghouls. I love this necklace and I like that it's on a fabric style chain instead of the your usual metal chain. I really like that the rabbits eyes and ears are coloured red, making the necklace pop more. The chain can be adjusted to via the fastener for how long you want it, I do like how it fits.

Next we have a MASK ZIPPER RING, the info card states that it's one size. My fingers tend to be small for rings, so they don't tend to fit me well enough to feel comfortable to wear them as they feel like they'd fall off. I like how the ring is designed with zip looking like you can open and close it. Personally for me like the mask necklace it has more of a masculine look and feel to it, so I don't think it's something I would personally wear but I know there will be many that love it and wear it on a daily basis.

Lastly we have a CUSTOM LYCORIS RADIATA COMPACT MIRROR, this is my favourite item from the Tokyo Ghoul April Box. The mirror is stiff and difficult to open but we've been assured that with use this will become easier to do. I love the design and colours, it now is placed within my bag to use when I'm out and about. I'd be surprised if no one was happy with this compact mirror, it's definitely the highlight of the box.

It's now time to get into all the business side of the Fangirl Monthly subscription box, whatever month you subscribe, as long as it's before the deadline you will get that months box, if it's after the deadline you will receive the next months box. Each box comes with 3-5 anime and manga inspired jewelry, accessories and goodies from a selected series each month. You get the choice of what term of what subscription plan you would like, there's a 6 month plan which is $102/£83.69 and renews every 6 months until you cancel, there is a 3 month plan which is $52.50/£43.08 and renews every 3 months until you cancel, and finally there is a monthly plan which is the plan I am on, which is $18/£14.77 and renews every month until you cancel. You are able to skip any of the months boxes if you need to for any reason. These boxes do not include shipping and each shipping price varies for where they are shipping to, I pay £24.81 a month which is including shipping. If you are interested in subscribing or fancy checking them out then you can head over to the Fangirl Monthly website.

Even though there are items I personally wouldn't wear I think Fangirl Monthly did a great job creating a versatile box for Tokyo Ghoul, my favourites are definitely the bunny necklace and the compact mirror, even the postcard tells a story which I've never noticed the others do. I can't hide how excited I am for my May Box, I wonder if we'll receive the Philosopher's Stone (no Harry Potter has not been made into an anime) and many are hoping that we'll get an infamous pocket watch, my phone case is even some amazing artwork from May's box.
May box is Fullmetal Alchemist.

See you soon!

Halloween Week Special: Monster Style Anime's

Hello
An nyeoung
Konnichiwa
Ni hao

Google images

Today I was going to do a post on making pumpkin pie but I won't be making that later on as it has to be made the night before it's needed to get the pest taste experience so going to use it for a later post, so today I'm going to share with you my top 5 ghoulish anime's, I say ghoulish but these anime's consist of gore, demons, monsters and feelings of uncomfortableness. So shall we get started.

No.5
High School of the Dead
Google images
Highschool of the Dead is set in present-day Japan, beginning as the world is struck by a deadly pandemic that turns humans into zombies, euphemistically referred to by the main characters as "Them"
The story follows a group of high school students (and the school's nurse) as they deal with a worldwide catastrophic event known as the "Outbreak". As the cast tries to survive the zombie apocalypse, they must also face the additional threats of societal collapse, in the form of dangerous fellow survivors, and the possible decay of their own moral codes. Starting from the high school, the students escape into town where they must deal with a corrupt teacher and his students. They check their homes for survivors, and pick up a little girl and a dog.
In at No.5 is the first anime I watched in this type of genre and when I first watched this anime it was because I liked the opening theme and how I didn't get how pervy this series was going to be from the opening is beyond me. Many people (mainly my friends) thought it was strange that I enjoyed this show as it's full of girls with big boobs and up skirt shots, something I think that if they'd focused on the story a lot more would have made the show a lot better and possibly kept both the manga and anime running. For a more in depth review of the anime check out my Highschool of the Dead Anime post.

No.4
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Google images
Brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric continue their search for the Philsopher's Stone, hoping to restore their bodies, which were lost when they attempted to use their alchemy skills to resurrect their deceased mother. Edward, who lost only limbs, joins the State Military, which gives him the freedom to continue the search as he tries to restore his brother, whose soul is tethered to earth by a suit of armour. However, Edward and Alphonse are not the only ones seeking the powerful stone. And as they search, they learn of a plot to transmute the entire country for reasons they cannot comprehend.
Even though some people wouldn't put this anime in with this type of post I think with some of the moments within the series can leave you feeling uncomfortable and aware of who you connect yourself with. I first watched this anime a few months ago and loved it from the first episode. What I love about this series is that even though it has it's dark moments it has comedy to lighten the mood. This is definitely an anime I recommend everyone to watch whether your an anime fan or not. Check out my Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Anime post.

No.3
Blue Exorcist
Google images
The story revolves around Rin Okumura, a teenager possessing abnormal strength and endurance who, along with his twin brother Yukio, was raised by Father Shiro Fujimoto, an Exorcist. One day, Rin learns that he and Yukio are the sons of Satan, the strongest of all demons. Witnessing Shiro dying to protect him, Rin ends up doing what his guardian asked him never to do: draw the demon-slaying blade Kurikara, which restrains his demonic powers, from its scabbard. From that moment on, Rin not only gains permanent demonic features like fangs, pointed ears, and a tail, but also the power to ignite himself into blue flames that can destroy almost anything they touch.
This is one of my series' and the reason that it's taken the third place spot is because the manga is still on going where the anime has taken a different root and finished after one series so for me the end of the anime was a bit anti-climax, don't get me wrong I think the ending is good but it could have ended with more. I love the characters within the series and my favourite has to be Rin the main character. This is another anime I have posted about in the past so check out my Blue Exorcist Anime post.

No.2
Tokyo Ghoul
Google images
The story follows Ken Kaneki, a college student who barely survives a deadly encounter with Rize Kamishiro, his date who reveals herself as a ghoul, a human-like creature that hunts and devours human flesh, and is taken to the hospital in critical condition. After recovering, Kaneki discovers that somehow he underwent a surgery that transformed him into a half-ghoul by transferring some of Rize's organs into his body, as she died when she attacked him, and just like them, he must consume human flesh to survive as well. With no one else to turn to, he is taken in by the ghouls who manage the coffee shop "Anteiku", who teach him to deal with his new life as a half-human/half-ghoul, including interacting with ghoul society and its conflicting factions, while striving to keep his identity secret from other humans.
Did you get my hint that this series may get placed in this countdown? hint spot the ghoulish. I've seen many people cosplay Kaneki and even though I'd heard of the anime I'd never shown an interest in seeing it, that was until I saw he first volume of the manga had been released here in the UK so thought I'd see what the big deal was. I watched the anime pretty much within 24 hours and thought it was amazing. It does seem that the anime is slow going but the season ends wanting you to jump straight into the second season, I love that in the final episodes it builds up so much that you don't expect it to be the final episode, I'm definitely a fan of the series now and it's another anime that I will recommend people to watch.

Have you guessed what I've placed in my No.1 slot?
An anime full of gore, death & on edge moments.
DRUM ROLL PLEASE...

No.1
Attack on Titan
Google images
The story of Attack on Titan centers around the adventures of Eren Yeager, his foster sister, Mikasa Ackerman, and their childhood friend, Armin Arlert. After the wall which protects their hometown of Shinganshina is breached by Titans, Eren watches in horror as one of them eats his mother. Vowing to kill all the Titans, Eren enlists in the military, along with his friends.
Attack on Titan has to be my favourite anime and manga series, I'm even being one of the characters for Halloween tomorrow. I love all the characters from the series, some more than others *cough Levi cough* I love that from start to finish you are kept on the edge of your seat on what will happen to the characters and who will live till the end of the series. Everyone has their theories on what will happen throughout the series, I may guess at what I think will happen but I can't wait for the story to unfold. If you haven't I highly recommend this anime and check out my Attack on Titan Anime post.
(By Etri Khor)

Honourable mention:
Death Note
Even though I've not finished the anime series, it's definitely worth mentioning in this post.
Black Butler
To be honest just Sebastian Michaelis needs an honourable mention here.

Do you have any dark and horror style genre anime's you enjoy and recommend for me.
If you do please comment them below.
See you soon!

Manga Madness: Tokyo Ghoul

Hello
An nyeoung
Konnichiwa
Ni hao

This weeks Manga Madness has a slight change, normally I post about the manga series, telling you what the series is about and giving out character info but this week I'm going to do more like a review of what I've read so far, mainly because I've heard many reviews and praises for both the manga and anime for Tokyo Ghoul, so when the manga finally got released in my local bookstore I thought I'd succumb and see what the big deal was but first let me give a short intro to what the manga is about and a few facts.

Tokyo Ghoul is a manga series written by Sui Ishida and was serialised in Shueisha's seinen manga magazine Weekly Young Jump between September 2011 and September 2014 and has been collected into 14 volumes that are being released worldwide, an anime has also been created from the manga. In 2013 the series ranked 27th best-selling manga in Japan with 1,666,348 estimated sales, as of January 2014 Tokyo Ghoul has sold 2.6 million copies of the manga and was the 4th best-selling manga series in Japan, with 6,946,203 copies sold.

The series follows a college student by the name of Ken Kaneki who barely survives a deadly attack by a ghoul named Rize Kamishiro, whose way of living is by feasting on human flesh to survive. Ken Kaneki is on deaths door when he is admitted to hospital and his only way of survival is an organ transplant, an operation that would change his life forever. Kaneki discovers that Rize's organs were transplanted into him, making his body change and adapt to the way of a ghoul, like them he must consume human flesh to survive. He is taken in by a group of ghouls that run a local café shop called Anteiku, who teach him to deal with his new status of half ghoul, half human. Can he keep his identity as a ghoul secret from rest of the human race?

So far only two volumes of the 14 have been released in the UK, the third volume is set to be released towards the end of this month and I can't wait for it's release. The artwork used for the covers are amazing, I would happily have the cover of the first volume as a canvas and I can't wait to see what the others will look like.
So far the story has been easy to follow and I can't help myself from guessing the outcome of the series, as expected for the beginning many characters have secrets that will probably unfold as the story goes on, for example will Kaneki's friend Hide found out he's now half ghoul and what's Touka's story. The writing keeps you in suspense throughout and if a translated version can keep you hooked and on the edge of your seat wanting to read more what will the original be like.
I was hooked from the first chapter of the first volume to the final chapter in the second volume and I'm eager to carry on reading but want to wait till the next volume is released.

The colours used for the colour pictures are really pretty, even down to the black and white pictures throughout the manga are breath taking and plenty of detail to explain even without the words what is happening. I'm guessing too that from each volume there will be character info as in both volume one and two there are stats on both Ken Kaneki and Touka Kirishima. The series also seems that it will be quite fast paced in what will happen with Kaneki, which I enjoy, I may be a fan of series' like Naruto and Bleach but some of it can be quite dragged out where Tokyo Ghoul seem to be like Sailor Moon, short and sweet that makes you want to read it over and over again.

Unable to discard his humanity but equally unable to suppress his ghoul hunger, Ken finds salvation in the kindness of friendly ghouls who teach him how to pass as human and eat flesh humanely. But recent upheavals in ghoul society attract the police like wolves to prey, and they don't discriminate between conscientious and ravenous ghouls.

If I can highly recommend this series after two volumes then I have high hopes for the series in all, if you like anything that's weird and wonderful related, have an interest in vampires, monsters and the undead I really think you will enjoy this series, let it take you to another world where anything can happen and is possible. What would you do if this happened to you would you like Kaneki strive to keep your humanity or fall prey to becoming a ghoul and eating anyone that passed you by, let me know below in the comments.

GHOULS LIVE AMONG US, THE SAME AS NORMAL PEOPLE IN EVERY WAY-EXCEPT THEIR CRAVING FOR HUMAN FLESH.
