The Flower and the Beast is a Japanese romance drama, the series is also known as Hana ni keda mono, which is also the title of the manga that this series is adapted from by Miwako Sugiyama. The series was directed by Kentaro Otani, Ryo Miyawaki and Akimori. It aired on the network dTV on Mondays from the 30th of October 2017, with the series concluding on the 10th of January 2018. The series contains 10 episodes with each episode being 25 minutes long. The series was also given a second season.
Main Cast:

Kumi Kumakura gets more than she bargained for when she transfers to a new high school. In her first few days at the new school, she meets the smooth-talking, kind and handsome Hyo Kakizono. Besotted with his charms, she ends up kissing him. But later, she makes a shocking discovery - Hyo has a reputation as a notorious womaniser! Despite her initial disappointment, Kumi realises that she cannot simply shrug off her feelings for him. And the more she gets to know him the more she understands that there is much more to this attractive classmate than his reputation might suggest.
Will Hyo give up his womanising ways for Kumi? And could true love one day blossom for the two classmates?

I spent a few of the episodes a little confused because the scenes seemed so familiar, I'd either watched this drama before and not remembered or I've read the manga, which is probably likely. While I did enjoy the series, I often felt at times that it seemed a little rushed, I think it could have done with the episodes either being closer to an hour or the series having more episodes to be able to get more background from the characters as well as seeing them grow more throughout the series. I think at times it was a little cliche as well as being a little predictable.
I was 50/50 when it came to Yurika Nakamura's character Kumi Kumakura, at times I found her character a little too naive for her age, especially when you could tell that she was sacrificing her own love life and happiness, for a friend that just couldn't let go. I feel bad for saying this but I wasn't always impressed with Yurika's acting, I'm going to put it down to bad directing and a bad script, rather than her being a bad actress.
I spent the first couple of episodes wondering why I recognised Yosuke Sugino, and then it clicked that he was Natsume Shu in the 2nd season of Good Morning Call. I thought his character in Good Morning Call was quite similar to Hyo Kakizono, in that they both seem to start as players but later fall in love and have the desire to change who they are for the better. I was a little disappointed that we never really got much of a background story for his character, but we did get to see his character grow and finally apologise to people he had hurt in the past.
I absolutely loved Takashi Matsuo as Chihaya Izumi, I had some serious conflicting emotions, I wanted him to end up with our female lead, but I also wanted the 2 leads to end up together. This is what we call second lead syndrome, I absolutely loved his character, he was definitely there to add more of a seriousness to the story.
I believe Kai Shouma's character Tatsuki Hiyoshi, is definitely there to add comedy to the show, sadly for me his problematic stomach got a little boring and repetitive, it reminded me of the anime/manga series Fairy Tail, with Natsu and his motion sickness. I did feel sorry for his character as he was stuck in a one-sided love and it was frustrating me that she seemed to be doing to him what had to been done to her in the way he was being treated.
I think Anna Iriyama was amazing as Kanna Ogami, I wish her character had been open and honest with not only herself but also with Yurika Nakamura's character, it would have prevented a lot of resentment and confusion in those characters. While I do feel she treated Kumi Kumakura pretty poor when she was always trying to aide her, I do feel that she herself was also conflicted by how she was feeling. I believe she thought she was still in love with our male lead, so when things got bad she tried to distance herself from her friend to stop her from making Yurika feel conflicted but, it made her feel conflicted anyway, I feel bad that all she needed was closure for the ability to move on and open her heart again to let others in.
I think overall, all the cast did an amazing job with what they were given, I wouldn't say this was one of my favourite drama's but I did enjoy watching it, it was short and sweet and we got a second season to tie up any loose ends.
I would still recommend this series if they wanted to watch a series that was quick and simple to follow, but don't expect it to get too deep or to really pull at your heartstrings.

Have you watched the first season of The Flower and The Beast?

If you're unaware of the excitement around Netflix Original Series Stranger Things then where have you been hiding?

Stranger Things is an American science fiction-horror web TV series created by the Duffer Brothers, it's both written and directed by Mark and Ross Duffer, and executive-produced by Shawn Levy.
Season 1 stars:

Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers

David Harbour as Jim Hopper

Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler

Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven aka El

Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson

Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair

Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler

Charlie Heaton as Jonathon Byers

Noah Schnapp as Will Byers

With appearances from Cara Buono as Karen Wheeler, Matthew Modine as Martin Brenner and Joey Keery as Steve Harrington. The series is set in the 1980's in a fictional town called Hawkins in Indiana, it's a homage to 1980's pop culture, inspired by the works of Steve Spielberg, John Carpenter, Stephen King, Robert Zemeckis and George Lucas to name a few.

It was released on Netflix on July 15th 2016 and received critical acclaim for it's characterisation, pacing, atmosphere, acting, soundtrack, directing, writing and homage to 1980's genre films. On August 31st 2016 Netflix renewed the series for a 2nd season to be released in 2017(this year, I cannot wait). According to Symphony Technology Group, within the first 35 days of it's release, the series averaged ratings around 14.07 million adults between ages 18-49 in the US alone. It has become the 3rd most-watched season of Netflix Original content in the US.

Season 1 follows the disappearance of a young boy, and the appearance of a telekinetic girl, who helps his friends in their search, while the boy's older brother, his mother and the town police chief start their own investigations into his disappearance.

November 6th 1983, in the town of Hawkins, Indiana, a 12 year old Will Byers vanishes mysteriously. Will's frantic mother, Joyce, searches for him while police chief Jim Hopper launches his own investigation. Will's friends Dustin, Mike and Lucas discover a psychokinetic girl who claims to know his location. As they uncover the truth, a sinister government agency tries to cover it up, while a more insidious force lurks below the surface.

This series was brought to my attention by a friend when he told me the opening theme reminded him of Tron Legacy, so I decided to check the show out. Season 1 is 8 episodes long and I completed it within 3 days watching between 2-3 episodes a night, I was hooked from the 1st episode. This was the first thing I'd seen from Winona Ryder since her shoplifting scandal back in 2001. I personally think this series will make her a fully fledged household name again as she was amazing in the show, but I think the top marks for acting goes to 5 kids in their portrayal as Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Eleven and Will, this show proves there are some amazing child actors working in the entertainment world. I really can't wait to see how all their characters progress in the 2nd season. If I didn't know that this was a recent show, I would have believed it was created in the 80's as nothing was overlooked. some serious research went into the creation of this show as everything from the characters wardrobe to the soundtrack was spot on. I'm a big fan of horror, thriller and science fiction genre's and I love it when a series can keep me on the edge of my seat from the start to the end of not just the episodes but the full series. If you haven't I seriously recommend watching this series as I think it's one of Netflix's best Original shows and I'm sure it won't disappoint, I'd be surprised if you came away from the series thinking you'd wasted time watching and not looking forward to see what is going to happen in the 2nd season. The series ends with questions that are probably going to be answered in season 2 if not in future seasons as I can see Stranger Things being around for a while especially if they keep on throwing out good content.

Sailor Moon Crystal: Season 1

Hello
Annyeoung

I've never made it secret that my all time favourite manga and anime series is in fact Sailor Moon, it was a show I grew up watching on a Saturday morning and I've even posted about it before back in April 2015, there's no better love story than Sailor Moon. I mentioned in my previous Sailor Moon post there was an anime reboot and I'm surprised it's took me so long to post about it as it started 2 years ago, well without waiting any longer shall we get started?

Google Images
Sailor Moon Crystal is a 2014 anime adaptation of the re-released manga series which is written and illustrated by Naoko Takeuchi. The new series was created for the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the original series, the series was produced by Toei Animation and directed by both Munehisa Sakai and Chiaki Kon. The first season was streamed WORLDWIDE on the NicoNico website from July 5th 2014 till January 17th 2015. Season 1 contains 14 episodes which follow the first 14 chapters of the manga series.

Google Images
On July 6th 2012 Kodansha and Toei Animation announced that it would begin the production of a new anime adaptation of Sailor Moon for a simultaneous worldwide release set for 2013, as part of the series' 20th anniversary celebrations. Then in April 2013 it was announced that the new anime had been delayed and would air late in the year. By 2014 there was still no news on the new anime until January 9th 2014 it was announced that the anime would premiere in July, a poster was eventually released along with a countdown, revealing the anime would be named Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal, and reprising her role as Usagi Tsukino aka Sailor Moon would be voice actress Kotono Mitsuishi.
The 1st season aired every 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month, with the first episode earning a viewership of over 1 million on NicoNico during the first 2 days of streaming. Sadly the 1st season also saw mixed reviews from both critics and fans with the series being criticised for the animation, writing and pacing.

So far there are 3 seasons of Sailor Moon Crystal with the first season being known as the Dark Kingdom Arc.

Google Images
Season 1 follows 14 year old Usagi Tsukino as she meets Luna, a talking black cat, following this Usagi becomes Sailor Moon. A long her journey of fighting crime Usagi meets new friends who are also Sailor Guardians: Ami-Sailor Mercury, Rei-Sailor Mars, Makoto-Sailor Jupiter and Minako-Sailor Jupiter. The guardians are told their main mission is to find and protect the princess of the moon kingdom as well as the legendary silver crystal. Sailor Moon also meets a mysterious masked man named Tuxedo Mask, it is revealed to Usagi that Tuxedo Mask is high school student Mamoru Chiba, a guy she seems to bump into often. Both Usagi and Mamoru are attracted to one another and share the feeling that they've met somewhere before. Mamoru has reoccurring dreams of a woman telling him to find the legendary silver crystal as well as the the princess, on arrival Sailor Venus is introduced as Sailor V and that she is princess Serenity, the princess they've been searching for to protect, Mamoru seems to feel odd about this as his gut instinct is to always protect Usagi. The truth comes to light when Tuxedo Mask is abducted by the dark kingdom, and it's revealed that in fact Usagi is the moon kingdom princess Serenity, and that she and Mamoru then known as Prince Endymion were lovers in a past life. The met a sad ending when Endymion was killed protecting Serenity, to which the sailor scouts watched Serenity end her own life not being able to live without him and thus watching the moon kingdom fall to ruin. With the reveal that Usagi is Serenity all the sailor scouts regain their memories of their past lives, living as part of the moon kingdom. Tuxedo Mask is sent back brainwashed to get the silver crystal and fight and destroy the sailor scouts.
Can Usagi fight and end the man she loves?
Are the scouts watching their past become the present?
What is the fate of the earth, Sailor Moon and the rest of the Sailor Guardians?
Guess you will have to watch the 1 season to find out.

Personally I had no criticism for the 1st season, it followed the manga which is what I loved most about it. I loved that Kotono Mitsuishi was back as Usagi, I don't think it would have been as good if someone else was voicing her. Sailor Moon Crystal is one of the anime's that I can watch over and over again, Usagi maybe a crybaby at times but what I love about the series is the whole moral of the story which is that they are 5 strong, independent girls that show that to overcome anything you don't always need a man, in the words of the Spice Girls it's basically all about Girl Power. It's also a show I can share with Skye and watch her react to it all the same way I did growing up. I can't wait for the 4th season and I'm hoping we will get to meet the Sailor Star Lights too something which was removed entirely for the English release. I loved all the colours throughout the season and I loved that we saw more interaction romantically with Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Venus with Zoisite, Kunzite, Jadeite and Nephrite. I love both the opening and ending themes too which are both performed by Momoiro Clover Z.

Ending - Gekkou(Moonbow) By Momoiro Clover Z

Gekkou(Moonbow) Full Song

One of the last things I want to share with you was the trailer that was released that definitely for me had me squealing with excitement that my favourite heroine would be making a return and I'm sure like many other hardcore Sailor Moon fans also had me crying that I was happy for her return, I'm also not ashamed to say that when the first episode aired I spent a majority of it crying at how amazing it was to have her back, something I never thought I'd get to see or even share with the younger generation. I think from start to finish this trailer is breathtaking from the colours to the music and hearing that iconic phrase MOON PRISM POWER MAKE UP! as well as Ai to seigi no, serafuku Bishoujo Senshi..... Sailor Moon! Tsukini kawatte, oshioki yo! if your not familiar with the subbed version of the show(I prefer the subbed) then you will know this famous phrase as For Love and Justice, the pretty sailor suited soldier Sailor Moon! In the name of the moon I will punish you!

I could go on forever with how much I love this series I even have a pair of custom Converse that I've had for the past 2 year, if you're wanting any custom Converse I HIGHLY recommend Bubblegum Fusion.
