I'm back with another Japanese drama post and if you think this drama sounds good and possibly sounds familiar, you're probably right. I read the synopsis for this drama and thought it sounded interesting, so decided to give it a watch and from the first episode, realised I had just watched the same drama but in Korean, yes I decided to check out Mischievous Kiss right after finishing Playful Kiss.

Mischievous Kiss: Love in Tokyo is a Japanese television drama, based on the Japanese manga Itazura Na Kiss by Tada Kaoru. The series originally aired through Fuji TV, airing from the 29th of March to the 19th of July 2013. The episodes aired on Mondays and ran for a total of 16 episodes. Mischievous Kiss: Love in Tokyo is the 5 TV adaptation of the manga, following the Japanese Itazura Na Kiss in 1996, the Taiwanese It Started With A Kiss in 2005, it's sequel They Kiss Again in 2007, the Korean Playful Kiss in 2010, the Thai Kiss Me in 2015 and the Chinese Miss in Kiss in 2016.

Kotoko Aihara isn't very intelligent and lacks ability in school. She is in class F, the least intelligent class in her grade. Despite this, she has been in love with the school's most handsome and intelligent guy, Naoki Irie, ever since she saw him give a speech at the high school entrance ceremony. In her third year of high school, she writes him a love letter but it's rejected instantly. She is crushed to see her letter was not even looked at and decides to give up on the jerk who rejected her without even reading it. On the same day, Kotoko's house is hit by a shooting star and collapses. As it is being rebuilt, her dad gets a phone call from his longtime friend and is invited to stay with them. When she arrives, she is in shock to see that this is the house of Naoki Irie and his family. Although he shows a cold attitude, she realises she can't help but love him. What will happen when fate takes over, and Kotoko's chance of winning Naoki's heart falls in her hands.

 I actually enjoyed comparing the plot lines for Mischievous Kiss and Playful Kiss as I've noticed that acting between Japan and South Korea varies a lot when it comes to emotion, there's been times when I've watched Japanese drama's and films and thought it seemed like they were over acting, compared to when I've watched a Korean drama. While I really enjoyed this drama, there were times when Kotoko really frustrated me, in the way she acted when it came to Naoki, which to me shows that Honoka Miki did her job right in her role. Yuki Furukawa did amazing as Naoki Irie, his cold personality at times made me want to slap him for Kotoko but the sly little smirk at times won me over and definitely made me a fan of Yuki. I loved Yuki Yamada and his role of Kinnosuke, he added the comedy to the drama, and you couldn't help feeling sorry for him with his one sided love. Overall I was pretty hooked from the first episode and I would have to say I prefer Mischievous Kiss to Playful Kiss, I feel the script was a little better for Mischievous Kiss and I'd have to say I lean more towards to the Japanese cast than the Korean. I definitely want to check out more dramas that these actors are in, and I'd also love to check out all the over adaptations and compare them.
