Gingerbread Men

Hello

I really enjoy baking, but sadly, I've come to a point where I don't bake as much as I'd want to or love to, I've starting making a list of things I want to bake, so hopefully that means more baking posts this year. Today we're making gingerbread men/women/people.
Let's get baking!

Ingredients:
300 g self raising flour
Pinch of salt
3 tsp ground ginger
100 g caster sugar
50 g butter
3 tbsp golden syrup
4 tbsp milk

Start by pre-heating your oven to 325F/160C/Gas Mark 3, grease and line a baking tray.

Place the flour, salt and ginger in a bowl and give it a stir.

In a small pan, warm the sugar, butter and golden syrup together.

Add the mixture from the pan to the bowl with your dry mixture and mix well.

Next add the milk and mix to a firm consistency, then lightly knead on a lightly floured surface.

Next roll out and cut shapes and place them on the baking tray. Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes.

Once removed from the oven, allow them to cool, once cool you're ready to serve and enjoy.

It's safe to say these did not last long, after a few days they'd all been eaten. They tasted really nice and instead of being hard like some gingerbread men can but, these were really nice, soft and chewy. Skye really liked them and as soon as they were gone, she was asking when I'd be making more of them, which I did while she was out to surprise her.

The recipe I followed is from the 40th edition of the BE-RO Home Recipes booklet, I've always used this recipe when I've made gingerbread men, I've also noted down some other recipes from the book too, I'll be ordering the 41st edition too see what new recipes there is to give a try.

See you soon!

Leann: up and coming baking goddess!

So I've started baking a lot lately making cupcakes, biscuits, gingerbread men and cakes, I really enjoy spending time in the kitchen baking and cooking it gets stressful but its good to stand back at the end of a project and feel proud at the finished product.

My first proper baking attempt was Christmas eve last year when my daughter wanted to leave Santa (me, her step dad and my dad) some milk and shortbread biscuits also some food for Rudolph and the rest of the reindeer team.

shortbread tree's and stars.
these were the gingerbread men that my daughter decided the heat was too low and turned the oven up.

milk, shortbread tree and gingerbread Santa ready for his arrival.

This was my first attempt at making and icing a cake as you can see didn't go to well and I was bummed out how bad I thought it looked, it tasted good though.

The next time I decided to bake I made some more shortbread biscuits but this time they were shaped and decorated like Hello Kitty.

These were my first attempt and I still love making and decorating these, they are my speciality.

My next speciality biscuit was my biscuits of the Disney princesses: Aurora aka Sleeping beauty, Cinderella, Ariel and Snow white, sadly because I had to use so much black liquid colour into the icing for snow White's hair her biscuits didn't taste as good.

Now here comes the next creations I am more proud of which are 2 cakes I made my friend Liv for her birthday and a surprise cake I made for my other half. Liv's cake was quite simple and spelt out her name, Andrews on the other hand was a cake with the Naruto characters (it's his favourite anime). Both cakes were a raspberry and chocolate zebra style cake (they didn't stay fresh long).

Liv's cake which also I put black and purple feathers at the top.

I made all the characters myself with icing I was rather proud of Naruto (the guy in the middle) the most and sasuke (the guy in white) has red eyes because he has what the uchiha clan called sharigan.

My next baking venture was a joint fathers day cake for my dad and my daughter's step dad, I couldn't think of what to do for them so I did a simple cake with white icing and then the symbol for my dad's favourite football team the Sheffield Wednesday owl and then for my other half it was the symbol for the hidden leaf village (from naruto) I have this tattooed on my back.

The next two cakes I did were both birthday cakes, 1 was a present for my nephew and the other was a present for my friend I also did her some birthday cupcakes too.

My nephew likes George pig, peppa pig's little brother.

My friend Nikki loves beauty and the beast so I thought I would do her a beauty and the beast themed cake.

I also did beauty and the beast themed cupcakes and on the inside these were multi coloured.

the cupcakes inside.

Well now it's time for me to disappear and go do some more baking and designing as I have more biscuits, cupcakes and a cake to do as presents for this week. Fingers crossed it all works out well.
