My Top 10 K-pop Singles of 2023

Hello

Last time I did a post like this for my favourite K-pop singles released, there were only 7 songs that I really loved, well that changed in 2023, and my post would be too long to include them all. So instead I'm going to share my top 10 singles of 2023, these are songs that were only digitally released and were a sole single, some may have later appeared on albums but they were released first as digital singles.

NO.10

While I didn't listen to this as much as some other that were released, it had to have a place on my chart because it's such a memorable and catchy track. Not just that but Hwasa has been known to receive hateful comments because of her body shape, so knowing that PSY reached out to her specifically with this song makes me love it even more.
I Love My Body
Owned by P Nation

NO.9

I was way too excited to see that VIXX was returning with a new single, while I was gutted that N would be absent from it, I still loved the song. I loved that it was a message to Starlight that no matter what was happening, it would be alright.
Gonna Be Alright
Owned Jellyfish Entertainment

NO.8

This was such a good collaboration. Soyeon, Winter and Liz blended well together, I'd happily see more collaborations from them in the future. It's a really catchy song, it reminds me of a different song at the chorus, but I just can't quite put my finger on it.
Nobody
Owned by Cube, SM & Starship

NO.7

2023 saw 4 out of 5 members of A.C.E return from their military service, and to celebrate they released 4 singles. For me Effortless came out as my favourite and they released it in both English and Korean. I absolutely adore A.C.E so I can't wait for them to release and album and for Yuchan to return.

NO.6

When I first heard this song I didn't think it was Mark, for me it's far from the NCT Mark that we know, that it makes me look forward to the day he gets to release his own solo album.
Golden Hour
Owned by SM Entertainment

NO.5

When this song released, I had it on repeat a lot, it's such a catchy song. It's one of those songs that it's easy to learn the lyrics to sing along to.
Better Things
Owned by SM Entertainment

NO.4

While this song isn't in Korean, it's being included because Jun is a K-pop idol, being a member of Seventeen. From the very first listen of this track, I was hooked. The melody and tempo suit Jun's voice and vocals perfectly
Psycho
Owned by Pledis Entertainment

NO.3

There's something about BXB, I always love their releases. Their vocals and raps always stand out, I'm just sad that they're seriously underrated. They deserve so much more recognition.
도약 (跳躍; Fly Away)
Owned by Wolfburn

NO.2

If you want a group that puts their all into what they do, as well as for their fans, then PENTAGON are that group. This song is stunning from the melody, to the vocals, to the raps, to the message. While most of the members have left Cube Entertainment and for now will do their own thing, I have no doubt that they will return together to release music as a group again. This is not them saying farewell, it's them saying see you soon.

NO.1

I've been obsessed with this song since it got released. I absolutely love it, I had it on repeat that much that it was only right that this would be my No.1 single of 2023. I was in love with this song from the first beat of the melody, I listened to it that much that it didn't take me long to learn the lyrics for the chorus.
Ponytail
Owned by AOMG

Other songs released in 2023 that I loved include Just B & Alexa with MBTI, Dino with Wait, NINE.i with Neverland, Forestella with Kool, JinJin with Wave in My Heart and Chanyeol with Good Enough. There were quite a few more too.
I look forward to what 2024 brings.

GOT7 worked on the album during their Keep Spinning World Tour, it ideally serves as a continuation of their previous mini album Spinning Top.
Call My Name tells how hearing the fans call "GOT7" calmed their anxiety and led the group to find it's true value by realizing that it can shine on stage. Call My Name has the concept of name as it's main theme, and talks about "how, if you don't call my name, I have no reason to exist".

니가 부르는 나의 이름 (You Calling My Name) won GOT7 1 music show win, winning on Music Bank.

Yugyeom co-wrote on Crash & Burn.
Jinyoung co-wrote on Run Away.
JB credited as Defsoul co-wrote on Thursday, Pray and title track 니가 부르는 나의 이름 (You Calling My Name), with him also co-composing on Thursday and Pray.

Call My Name peaked at No.1 on the Gaon Albums Chart, No.16 on the Oricon Albums Chart, No.8 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums Chart and No.5 on the Billboard World Albums Chart.

All the photo books are different, and if pre-ordered, the albums came with a random Tourlog Photo Essay book, a random World Tour postcard set, a random event card and a poster.

Track List:
니가 부르는 나의 이름 (You Calling My Name)
Pray
Now or Never (Feat. Jonas Blue)
Thursday
Run Away
Crash & Burn

I believe I have the A version of the album, I actually bought mine of eBay and was lucky enough to also get the pre-order benefits of the Tourlog Essay Book and the Tour postcards.
I love the photo book, the pictures and concept are breathtaking, I love how simplistic they are which I think for me makes them stand out even more, the mixture of colour and black & white pictures is perfect, and fits their mature concept really well.
The album itself is stunning and you can really tell that they created this album especially for their fans. For me this is one of their most mature sounding albums.

I've been in love with 니가 부르는 나의 이름 (You Calling My Name) since the first time I listened to it. For me this is the mature older brother of 니가 하면(If You Do), I love how sensual the melody is, as well as how they sing and rap, they have the perfect tone for this track. I love how no member stand out more than the others, proving that they really are a unit.
니가 부르는 나의 이름 (You Calling My Name)

I love the melody for Pray it may sound odd, but this is the sound that makes me think of GOT7 and I think it's a sound that fits them perfectly. I love the chorus, I think it fits the members voices perfectly. But can we really expect anything less from JB, I've always been a fan of the tracks he's created.
Pray

Zaty Farhani
The melody for Now or Never (Feat. Jonas Blue) really makes me think about the spring and summer months. I think while the melody seems really simple, it makes the song sound perfect, it's definitely one of my favourite tracks from this album. I love the raps and the vocals, I love the softness you hear in each of their voices.
Now or Never (Feat. Jonas Blue)

As you may expect, I love the melody for Thursday, and I especially love the chorus, I can't help but tap my foot a long to this track whenever it plays.
Thursday

I always love the tracks that Jinyoung has participated in and Run Away is no different, I love how you can hear the different styles between the members music, which I think makes it sound like the perfect GOT7 album. The melody is perfect and I love how each of the members sound, I think with tracks like this one you can hear how they've changed and matured over the years.
Run Away

I think the most mature sounding track on this album is Crash & Burn, I think it really showcase their growth through the years and it's a perfect fit for all 7 of their voices, a perfect track that shows GOT7 are 7 members and a whole unit.
Crash & Burn
Mnet K-POP

KOCOWA TV
I love that this album has a similar sound and concept throughout it's track, it really makes the album stand out against their other albums, making it even more special.

I'm loving all the solo music they're releasing at the moment, and I hope we get some new music from them as a group, even if it's just a single. I can't wait to see what they release when they have full creative control of what they put out there.
