The series is based on the 2010 novel of the same name, which was made into a comic, and was also previously adapted into a Chinese film.
The series was pre-produced, with the first script reading being held on the 20th of August 2018. Filming began the same month.
The release of the series was delayed for 3 years due to difficulties in finding a television network to broadcast it. Adding to that, the 2 male leads, Choi Tae Joon and Hwang Chan Sung, started their military service not long after the series had finished filming, so there were potential difficulties in promotional activities without them.

I absolutely loved the soundtrack for this series, I was even surprised to learn that Choi Tae Joon also had a hand in the soundtrack, I'm always happy and shocked to find out when Korean actors also have amazing singing vocals.
Check out some of my favourite songs below.
Youngjae - Pop Star

Choi Tae Joon - Pop Star

Choi Tae Joon - Bittersweet

Kwon Minje - When U Blow

Moon Kim - It's You

Lee Shin Sung -  As Good As It Gets

Kim On You - The Spring Days

Hoo Joon is one of South Korea's biggest entertainment industry stars. He is attending an event at a new night hotspot. Aspiring young magazine reporter Lee Geun Young is dispatched to the opening, where she inadvertently witnesses some rough and rude behaviour from Hoo Joon - and then proceeds to throw up all over him by mistake.
The magazine later decides to fire her, and she assumes Hoo Joon orchestrated her dismissal. Outraged, she decides to mount a one woman protest outside the offices of the star's entertainment agency. The media picks up on her demonstration and she becomes known as his number one "anti-fan."
The opportunistic production team of a new variety show decides to capitalize on Lee Geun Young's sudden notoriety. The producers meet her to tell her about their concept, a star who is forced to live with their biggest "anti-fan", Lee Geun Young is hesitant at first, but losing her job has left her broke and the appearance fee is high enough to driver her to accept.
Hoo Joon isn't that keen on the idea either. But a sudden dip in his popularity forces him to reconsider - and leads him to believe the show will offer him a chance to redeem himself in the public's eyes.
However, when they start living together, the odd couple slowly starts to realize they are actually a good match for one another... But could romance bloom on this unconventional and very public stage?

I absolutely loved and adored this series, I loved the casting, the styling as well as the plot, even if it was predictable as these kind of shows can be, but it still took turns that I wasn't expecting.
The cast did such an amazing job in telling the story, there were times I were laughing, crying and really angry, which shows how good they were in their roles.
I've actually not watched Choi Tae Joon in a drama since I watched Missing 9 back in 2017, so I was excited to see him in another role, while the series begins with him playing a similar character, I was happy to see the more the series went on the more we got to see the real Hoo Joon and what had caused him to become the person he had. I loved the chemistry between him and Lee Geun Young, you just know that both he and Sooyoung had a laugh filming this show.
As a Girls' Generation fan, this is actually my first time watching Sooyoung in a drama, and honestly I'm glad this one was the first, I absolutely loved her, she had me crying with the laughter from the very first episode. I loved seeing her walls come down, while trying to help the truth be revealed, at times she could seem naive, but she was definitely a strong and independent woman and fought for what she believed was right.
Hwang Chan Sung was amazing as Choi Jae Joon, you could tell he felt betrayed and couldn't let it go and move on with his life, he wanted to make sure that he knew exactly what Hoo Joon was doing, and wanted to make sure he was there when it was about to hit the fan. I personally think that he struggled with being honest with his feelings and that anything and everything that went wrong within his career and relationship was Hoo Joon's fault. He's definitely the character that throughout the series you can't help but love to hate, you can tell he's being unreasonable, and it's not till towards the end that you start to feel sympathetic towards him.
Han Ji An was perfect as Oh In Hyung, from the start you can see she's guilty for the way she treated and left Hoo Joon, while we see that Jae Joon had real feelings for her, he definitely manipulated and was emotionally abusive towards her, like Jae Joon she struggles with her real feelings and is still living in the past. In some ways she's like Jae Joon in that to get herself noticed she'll stop at nothing, no matter who is in the firing line.
This is also my 2nd drama with Kim Min Kyu, my first being Because This Is My First Life, I loved him as Go Soo Hwan, you could tell he was close with Lee Geun Young and was always happy to help out his friend. He's a friend she knows she can always turn to when she's in trouble or upset. He often had me laughing too.
I loved Kim Sun Hyuk as Seo Ji Hyang, he was the perfect Hyung for Hoo Joon, and I think he kept him grounded, he always made sure he had his back, and he also turned a blind eye when he could see things changing between Hoo Joon and Geun Young, allowing them to keep their privacy.
I loved the chemistry between Dong Hyun Bae as Han Jae Won and Im Do Yoon as Noh Do Yoon, they seem to have a back and forth relationship, which often had me laughing, they just bounced off each other perfectly.
Kim Min Kyo played the Shooting Star CEO perfectly, it's very obvious that money got the better of him and the more money and power he has the more he controls those around him, including Hoo Joon.
Song Chae Yoon was perfect as Cha Yuri, she's a hardcore fan of Hoo Joon and at first you can't help but think her actions towards Geun Young is horrible and disgusting, but the more she appears around Geun Young, you can't help but laugh with how they act around each other, the more time she spends with Geun Young though, the more you see her soften towards her and they both realise they're not as bad as they both think.
This is definitely a series that I will happily sit and watch all over again.

I highly recommend watching So I Married the Anti-Fan, for me it's a series about learning to love who you are and being honest with those around you as well as being honest with yourself. It may start as a series of wanting to get payback, but the more it progresses, it's more about learning to listen and not to judge a book by it's cover.

Have you watched So I Married the Anti-Fan?
