Looking back on my last EXO posts they've been really sparse with my latest being back in February and the previous one before that was back in 2017, so I think it's time for another EXO related post and this time I'm introducing you the EXO's first sub-unit group EXO-CBX aka EXO-Chen-Baek-Xi. The sub-unit consists of EXO members Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin hence their unit name.
Hey Mama! is the unit's debut mini album.
Back on the 5th of October 2016, SM Entertainment announced that Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin would be forming EXO's first official sub-unit group. Then on the 21st of October 2016, Hot Debut: EXO's First Unit video was released.

On the 24th of October 2016, it was announced that the unit's name would be EXO-CBX. Next on the 29th of October 2016, the M/V teaser was released for their title track Hey Mama!

On the 31st of October 2016, the M/V was released for Hey Mama! along with the physical and digital release of their debut mini album of the same name.

Lastly on the 7th of November 2016, The One Special Clip was released.

EXO-CBX on the 31st of October 2016, held a promotional, on a special stage located at the east side of Samseong-dong COEX in Seoul. The event was streamed live through the V app. they later made their debut music show performance on M Countdown on the 3rd of November.
In 2016 their debut mini album sold 275,000 copies, Hey Mama! became the highest selling album by a sub-unit in 2016 in the Gaon Chart with 275,191 copies and also in the Hanteo Chart with 202,281 copies sold.
Hey Mama! won EXO-CBX 1 music show trophy taking the win on The Show.
Hey Mama! peaked at No.1 on the Gaon Albums Chart, No.14 on the Oricon Albums Chart and No.1 on the Billboard World Albums Chart.
Hey Mama! also peaked at No.2 on the Gaon Monthly Albums Chart, with the mini album also peaking at No.6 on the Gaon Year-End Albums Chart and No.13 on the Chinese Year-End Albums Chart.

The M/V for Hey Mama! has gained 60,292,607 million views and the views continue to grow on a daily basis.
Hey Mama! was released in 3 versions C,B,X with C being for Chen, B for Baekhyun and X for Xiumin. All 3 versions are a different colour with Chen's being green, Baekhyun's being blue and Xiumin's being red.
The album is set out in a square hardback book style case and comes with Cd, fold-out lyric sheet, photo book and a random photo card.
The photo book's for each version are pretty much the same with slight differences in each version.

I got Baekhyun's version as out of CBX, Baekhyun is my bias, I love the contrast between colourful and dark within the photo book, I also love that the styling is more of a retro look for the colourful pictures. I think the album as a whole is a perfect album to play in the summer and some of the tracks take me back in time as some of the songs remind me of other songs that I heard growing up and going to the school disco, it definitely fits in with the retro styling.
I think The One is the perfect track to start the album with it's really upbeat and gets you ready moving and hyped up for the rest of the album, I think their vocals blend really well with the music.
The One
I think The One leads perfectly into Hey Mama! keeping up the tempo and keeping you moving, as well singing along with the Hey Mama chorus, I think it's the perfect song that CBX could have debuted with, It allows Chen and Baekhyun's vocals to shine as well as allowing us to hear more of Xiumin's rap and vocals, I think overall it's just a really fun song that gets you thinking about the summer months no matter what time of the year it is.

Now it's time to slow it down slightly with Rhythm After Summer, I think this is the perfect song to have one when lying round the pool or on the beach, or even just getting ready to go and with friends. I love the melody and their vocals fit perfectly with it.

It's time to slow it down even further with Juliet and really let their vocals shine, Baekhyun and Chen are known for their vocal range and the beauty of their singing, so for me this track is a bonus to allow Xiumin's vocals to really shine as when EXO are together he doesn't tend to get as much singing time because there are 4 other lead vocals within the group.

Lastly we have my favourite track and the perfect song to end the album with Cherish, I love this song from start to finish, it's gives me feelings of the ending to a perfect day. Everything from the vocals to the melody are really on point, I love that it's a mid-tempo track, as weird as it sounds this song gives me visions of being with friends after a hot day just watching the sun set. It's strange how a song can make you feel like it's the perfect ending to a perfect day.

We're getting a new EXO sub-unit this summer (2019) and I'm way too excited as it's Chanyeol and Sehun aka EXO-SeChen, we're also getting an official solo debut from Baekhyun, making him the 3rd member to release a solo album with Chen being the 2nd, making his solo debut back in April. Even though it may not be as much as a group it's nice to see the members of EXO being more active this year and I'm curious to see if we will get an EXO album while Kyungsoo and Xiumin are inactive members.
