While the drama had it's supporters, the number of episodes were reduced from 16 to 14, due to low viewership ratings.

A Beautiful Mind is a medical mystery drama about a genius neurosurgeon, Young Oh, who suffers from the inability to feel emotions and a rookie traffic policewoman, Jin Sung, who tries to find the justice. As soon as Young Oh comes back to Korea after finishing his studies abroad, he starts working at Hyunsung Medical Center and on the very first day at hospital, he gets to meet Jin Sung who came to save a car accident patient. Soon, a series of bizarre deaths occur at the hospital and Young Oh tries to find the secret of it with the help of Jin Sung and along the way, he learns to love and care for people.
Will he be able to find the answer of mysterious accidents? Also, will he learn to love and care for people with humanity?
Stay tuned to join their journey.

While this isn't one of my favourite dramas, I still enjoyed it and the plot and cast were able to keep my attention. I think the only fault I have was that it seemed to jump from one thing to another, meaning at times, it didn't really flow together well. This could possibly be because it had episodes cut due to low ratings, meaning at times it seemed a little rushed.
I mainly watched this because of Park So Dam, as I loved her in Cinderella and the Four Knights, as well as Record of Youth.
This is my first drama with Jang Hyuk so I can't really compare his past works but I thought he did amazing as Lee Young Oh, you can really see how this is a modern take on Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, we associate monsters with things like Demogorgaon's, Zombie's and Vampires etc, but would you consider someone who has no emotions a monster? That's exactly how other see Lee Young Oh, because he's unable to feel emotions, making him an easy target when it comes to pointing the finger. Although as the series continues it seems, he wants to change how people view him and even wants to be able to feel things, and learn how to.
As expected Park So Dam was amazing as Gye Jin Sung, she's really independent and seems to have a one-sided crush on friend and saviour Hyun Suk Joo, but things change when she meets Lee Young Oh, she initially reacts to him the same way everyone else does, but as she gets to know him, she sees that he's just misunderstood because of his condition, and begins to have feelings for him. I love that even though she knows he can't feel the same way about her, she stands by him to help him when things get tough for him. We also see that she has an impact on him as he's willing to change because of her.
I thought Yoon Hyun Min did an awesome job as Hyun Suk Joo, he seemed to care for Gye Jin Sung as a brother and always seemed to be there to protect her, even trying to stop her from befriending Lee Young Oh, at times I wondered whether he returned her feelings but didn't want to cross that doctor/patient line.
Park Se Young was the typical woman scorned as Kim Min Jae, she believed that her relationship with Le Young Oh would last and that they'd get married and have a family, until she learns that he has no feelings for her and is just going with the motions of what is normal to seem and be normal. Which is something she uses to get back at him when things don't go her way.
I think Heo Joon Ho did a good job as Lee Gun Myung, we're made to believe that he is Lee Young Oh's biological father, but in fact raised him out of guilt because he knows he was the cause of the trials he sees today because his lack of emotions, something that Lee Young Oh finds hard to take in when he finds out that all is not what it seems.

I'd happily watch this drama again, to see if there was anything I missed the first time round, and to see if I have the same feelings as I did the first time round.
If you're a fan of Frankenstein then I would recommend giving this drama a watch so you can see a modern take on the story of Frankenstein's monster. and maybe you'd find a new drama to love and enjoy.
