I'm back with another Red Velvet post and this time I'm back with their 5th and 1st summer mini album The Red Summer.

On the 23rd of June 2017, SM Entertainment announced that Red Velvet would be making a comeback, the first time they would be making a comeback in the summer.
On the 7th of July 2017, the M/V teaser was released for their title track 빨간 맛 (Red Flavor).

Billboards Tamar Herman, Fuse' Jeff Benjamin and The 405's Chase McMullen all praised the title track and mini album for it's summery vibe, while Le Gi-seon of IZM magazine was more neutral, but had a more positive response to their title track 빨간 맛 (Red Flavor). Chester Chin of The Star described the album as a "sizzling affair that highlights the girl group's more vivid and upbeat side".
The Red Summer marks the 3rd time that Red Velvet have topped Billboards World Albums Chart, making them, the K-pop girl group with the most No.1 albums on the chart.

On the 8th of July 2017, before the tracks official release, Red Velvet performed 빨간 맛 (Red Flavor) during the SMTOWN concert in Seoul, with promotions starting the next day on Inkigayo, performing both 빨간 맛 (Red Flavor) and You Better Know.
빨간 맛 (Red Flavor) won Red Velvet 5 music show trophies, with 1 win through Music Bank, 1 win through Inkigayo, 1 win through Show Champion, 1 win through M Countdown and 1 win through Show Music Core.

The Red Summer peaked at No.1 on the Gaon Albums Chart, No.27 on the Oricon Albums Chart, No.25 on the Billboard Independent Albums Chart, No.8 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers Albums Chart and No.1 on the Billboard World Albums Chart.

The Red Summer is set out in a hardback book style case with the Cd design being the fruit designated to each of the members. 바다가 들려 (Hear The Sea)

So far The Red Summer is my favourite album from Red Velvet, I love each track, each one gives off a different summer vibe and gets me singing and dancing along. The whole album is colourful and really stands out, it really gives off their red vibe, it's like a party in an album, you have upbeat tracks to get you grooving and then ending with a slower track to help you wind down and start the process all over again. It was actually seeing them perform You Better Know that made me decide to buy the album just after it was released and I'm glad I did. I can sit and listen to this album on repeat and never get bored of it. If I had to recommend an album of Red Velvet's to a new fan or a non K-pop fan it would be The Red Summer.

Red Flavor

You Better Know
Mnet K-POP

Zoo

여름빛 (Mojito)

바다가 들려 (Hear The Sea)

So I've finally been able to share with you my favourite album from Red Velvet, and they've started their teaser process ready for their next summer mini album, which I've read contains the English version of their song Bad Boy. I'm always excited for Red Velvet return as they always come back with something new, showing that they are willing anything that's thrown at them and never shy away from a challenge.
