The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell as a fantasy book written by Chris Colfer, it was published by Little, Brown Books, back on the 17th of July 2012. It's the first book in the The Land of Stories series.
The Wishing Spell was on the New York Times Bestseller list for 5 weeks and reached the No.1 spot for 2 of those 5 weeks. The Wishing Spell was also named one of Barnes & Noble's "Best Books of 2012".
On the 13th of June 2017, it was announced that Twentieth Century Fox is developing a film adaptation of The Wishing Spell, with Chris Colfer directing and writing the screenplay. He will also serve as one of the executive producers on the film, which will be produced by 21 Laps Entertainment.

Alex and Conner Bailey's world is about to change.

When the twins' grandmother gives them a treasured fairy-tale book, they have no idea they're about to enter a land beyond all imagining: The Land of Stories, where fairy-tales are real.

The twins know they must get back home somehow. But with the legendary Evil Queen hot on their trail, will they ever find the way?

Let me start off by saying I've been a fan of Chris Colfer since the 1st season of Glee premiered here in the UK, and while I know his books are aimed at children, I couldn't resist getting my hands on his books, and I'm glad I did.
Everyone loves a good fantasy fairy-tale and if I'm being completely honest I think I was probably as excited as Alex coming across the famous characters.
For me a good author keeps you wanting to read onto the next chapter and then onto the next, making them difficult to put down, and The Wishing Spell is one of those books. I did get scared as I was getting towards the end of the book that there was still so much to learn before the book came to an end and I was worried that it would all be rushed, but I think it finished off rather nicely, for me there were no questions left unanswered, no stone left unturned.
While the story progressed I did guess some of the outcome, but it still left me feeling sad and excited for the twins, it also pulled at the heartstrings for characters you didn't think you would be sad for. It definitely made be think about one of the characters a little differently from what I've read and seen before.
It was really easy to read, but with it being aimed at the ages of 9-11, I would assume it would be, but for me it didn't make it any less enjoyable to read.

I would highly recommend this book whether you're 9,11 or like me 32, it's a good, fun book to read, with many characters you've come to know and love as you grew up, but most of all with everything going off right now, just for a little while, it takes you off to a new fantasy world. A world you can only ever dream of visiting.
