I'm back with another post for Red Velvet and this time I'm sharing with you their 2nd mini album The Velvet.

On September 8th 2015, while promoting their 1st full length album The Red at a press conference Red Velvet hinted at a follow-up album to The Red, then October 2015 Wendy confirmed in an interview that an album was coming after The Red.
On the 14th of March 2016, an M/V teaser was released for title track 7월 7일 (One Of These Nights).

10 minutes before the release of the M/V and album on March 16th 2016, SM announced that both the M/V and album's release would be delayed till the next day, "to guarantee a high quality of work", Red Velvet also apologised to their fans on the March 16th broadcast of Good Morning FM.
On the 17th of March 2016, the M/V for 7월 7일 (One Of These Nights) was released along with the physical and digital release of The Velvet.
Owned by SM Entertainment

(One Of These Nights) draws inspiration from from the Korean festival Chilseok, which is celebrated on the 7th day of the 7th month. The original tale tells the story of lovers Jiknyeo and Gyeonwu, who were separated by the heavenly king and only allowed to meet on the 7th day of the 7th month of the lunar calendar.
While The Red focuses on their bright "red" image, The Velvet focuses on their smooth and soft "velvet" image.
Billboard called 7월 7일 (One Of These Nights) "the groups most expressive vocal performances to date". While The Star's Chester Chin praised the albums "languorous build-up", adding that "7월 7일 (One Of These Nights) indie sensibilities is an assured step in the right direction for the girl group".

Promotions started on M Countdown with them performing Hot Cool Sweet Love and title track 7월 7일 (One Of These Nights), their title track won them 5 music show trophies; 1 through Music Bank, 1 through Inkigayo, 1 through The Show, 1 through Show Champion and 1 through M Countdown.

The Velvet peaked at No.1 on the Gaon Albums Chart, No.75 on the Oricon Albums Chart, No.2 on the Five-Music (Taiwan) Albums Chart and No.8 on the Billboard World Albums Chart.
Gaon Sales:
51,124+
Oricon:
2,104+
Totalling 53,228+ copies sold (their album with the least sales)

The M/V for 7월 7일 (One Of These Nights) has also raked in the views with a total of 20,402,353 million views, with the views increasing with each day.

The Velvet is set out in a card slipcase, containing jewel Cd case, lyric book with the same set up as The Red's lyric book, photobok and a random member photocard. The whole layout is the same as The Red's. The Velvet's photobook uses more pastel colours compared to the brightness of The Red while the cover of The Velvet is bright to connect the 2 albums. The pictures within the photobook show off a more softer, mature and sultry side to the Red Velvet members.

Personally for me this is my least favourite album from Red Velvet, I don't think Velvet has to be ballads and their latest comeback to me seemed more of a velvet concept. It seems to me with the Velvet being their least selling album SM went back to the drawing board to re-think how they wanted to bring the velvet across and if you check out Bad Boy I think they've completed their task. I'm not saying I don't want the girls to do ballads as I love hearing them sing ballads, I love how all their vocals combine as 1 which (One Of These Nights) really shows. I love the pictures in the photobook, they all look so pretty especially my bias Yeri. I do love the tracks on the mini album and I do love that they did a remake of a song that was originally sung by their company's founder. While I do enjoy listening to this album it's not my go to Red Velvet album, remember this is my own personal opinion, so why not check out the tracks below to decide on your own opinion.

Red Velvet are really a versatile group and I get really excited when a comeback is announced for them as you never know what they'll come back with. I look forward to their next comeback.
