GFriend - Snowflake

Hello
Annyeoung
Konnichiwa

Back in September I shared with you, GFriend's 2nd mini album Flower Bud and I think posting about this week's K-pop Monday has worked out pretty well as we are now at the beginning of December and I think the album's title gives it a wintry and Christmassy feel.

Snowflake is the 3rd mini album from GFriend that was released at the start of the year(2016).
On the 19th of January their  시간을 달려서 (Rough) comeback trailer was released.

Their 3rd mini album Snowflake was released the next day on the 25th of January, Snowflake was a much-anticipated mini album after the girls won Rookie of the Year at the Golden Disk Awards and Best New Female Artist at the Melon Music Awards for singles Glass Bead and Me Gustas Tu.
The M/V for 시간을 달려서 (Rough) was inspired by the anime film The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, it's also the final song from their school series representing the end of the school year, showing them part to follow different routes and meet up again.

시간을 달려서 (Rough) was Gfriend's first real success winning a total of 15 music show awards which included triple crowns: 3 wins on Show Champion, 3 wins on M! Countdown, 4 wins on Music Bank, 3 wins on Inkigayo and 2 wins on The Show; with these wins Gfriend are in 2nd place for the most number of wins by a girl group for a single song.
Snowflake sold 11,165 physical copies in just 1 week and as of June Snowflake has sold more than 33,000 copies.
All 5 tracks on the mini album charted on the Gaon Digital Chart,시간을 달려서 (Rough) peaked at No.1 on the 3rd week of it's release and as of May 2016 has sold more than 1.2 million digital downloads. During January the M/V for 시간을 달려서 (Rough) was the 3rd most watched K-pop M/V globally.
Snowflake peaked at No.2 on the Gaon Weekly Albums Chart, No.7 on the Gaon Monthly Albums Chart and No.10 on the Billboard World Albums Chart.
Gaon Physical Sales:
33.411+
The views for the 시간을 달려서 (Rough) M/V continue to grow with the M/V having 35,143,031 views through 1theK and 1,123,194 views through their official YouTube channel making a total of 36,266,225 views so far this year.

The album is set out in a card style case with the CD on one side and the booklet in a pocket on the other side. The colours follow a Autumn/Winter theme showing the girls in school attire, working and having fun hanging out together. The pictures also give off a Christmas feel to them showing the girls in all white floaty dresses and posing surrounded by white Christmas lights and snowflakes.

I cried when I saw GFriend's first music show win, finally seeing them get recognition for their hard work made me happy for them especially as their debut was mainly bad comments about them copying Girls Generation. This album didn't disappoint either, each one of their releases has had one amazing song after the other that showcases each of their vocal talents. I love that they are all average girls that are showing that you don't have to be stick think and have a big thigh gap to show you can make it in a country that focuses on beauty as perfection. I love the layout for this mini album along with the photo's in the booklet, each members gets to shine her own beauty, I've noticed many people choose a bias on looks etc but for me with Gfriend my bias' are Yuju - she's been my bias since glass bead because her vocals are on point, she may not be on par with other K-pop power vocals like TaeYeon and Ailee but they way she hits her notes are on point, she's definitely the power vocal of Gfriend, and Umji - I love that she has an average and healthy body shape, which makes me and probably many other girls who are curvier feel better about their bodies. I often seem comments on how GFriend are not the best looking girl group in K-pop but surely music is brought down to talent not their appearance. I'm rambling on so check out their tracks below on just how good of a group they are.

INTRO (Snowflake)

내 이름을 불러줘 (Say My Name)

사랑별 (Luv Star)

그런 날엔 (Someday)

TRUST

시간을 달려서 (Rough)

Gfriend are the first group I've watched since debut and I can't wait to see what more the future holds for them as they can only keep going up and improving.
