American Horror Story

I was originally going to upload this post back in October for Halloween but never really got round to writing it and posting it, so without further ado let's not keep it any longer.

American Horror Story is an American anthology horror TV series, it's created and produced by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. Each season is conceived on a self-contained mini-series, following a disparate set of characters and settings, with some plot elements loosely inspired by true events.

The show premiered the 5th of October 2011 on cable TV channel Fox in the USA, it premiered internationally November 2011 on the respective countries Fox International Channel e.g. in the UK it's just called Fox.
So far the show consists of 6 seasons:

Season 1 - Murder House

Season 6 - Roanoke

Roanoke takes place in 2016 and centres around 3 real people as they tell their haunting story in a documentary named My Roanoke Nightmare, with actors re-enacting the events that they tell of their time in the house they lived in.

So far from the long list of cast members from the 6 seasons, only 3 cast members have appeared in all 6 seasons and they are:

Seasons 1-5 all use the same opening theme, with season 4 adding a carnival sound to the theme, all the opening credits change with each season, with the imagery adapting to each season and often hiding clues within the title sequence. Season 6 is the only season that has no opening theme or opening credits.

On October 4th the series was renewed for a 7th season.

It wasn't till October last year that I started watching American Horror Story on Netflix, and have enjoyed every season apart from Freak Show which I attempted to watch but couldn't stomach it as there was a creepy looking clown man, so gave in after about 3 episodes. Up until season 6 airing this year my favourite season had been Coven with Hotel being pretty close behind, but Roanoke changed all that. I tend to like programme's that are people telling their horror stories that they've had to live and witness, so personally for me Roanoke seemed more real and scarier than the other 5 seasons, plus Roanoke is loosely based on the lost colony also known as Croatoan, where all the members of the colony mysteriously disappeared. I really loved the acting in Hotel especially Lady Gaga, I was pleasantly surprised with how amazingly she did and was happy to see her return for Roanoke and hope she continues to appear in the series.
I was pretty much hooked from day 1 of starting the series and practically finished Murder House within 24 hours, the only season where I felt it was a little too far fetched was Asylum, even though I did enjoy watching that season I felt that too much was going off to be able to concentrate on it all, plus I don't think it really lived up to it's series' name as I never felt myself looking round to check if I was alone or sat on the edge of my seat feeling spooked. When it comes to TV shows or films my favourite genre is horror/thriller, so I love that there is a TV show that focuses on trying to unnerve it's viewers and pulling them into the events.

If your a horror/thriller fan then I highly recommend giving American Horror Story a try if you haven't already, like me not every season will be your cup of tea but I think that's the bonus of this show, each season is a different story with different characters, meaning if you didn't like a character in one season you won't see them again, plus you don't have to watch each season for the story to continue, so if like me you miss out a season you don't miss out on any of the plot for the next season. Even if your not that good with horror I'd still recommend giving it a try as I personally don't think it's really scary just a little bit your nails, sit on the edge of your seat uncomfortableness.

Have you watched American Horror Story?

See you soon!
