Billboard called the title track Rookie a "quirky, funk-driven dance track with an unforgettable ear worm of a hook", while The Star's Chester Chin thought Rookie was the albums weakest track, he praised the rest of the album and noted that the group has finally found the perfect balance between their red and velvet sound, something he believed the group had been struggling with. He commented that it was the right mix of "saccharine and sophisticated" with it's fun pop numbers and heartfelt ballads.
Hours before both the M/V and albums release, Red Velvet held a live broadcast through the Naver V App, where they promoted and discussed their new album.

Promotions for Rookie began the 3rd of February 2017, Rookie won 9 music show trophies, with 2 wins on M Countdown,  2 wins on Show Champion, 1 win on The Show, 2 wins on Inkigayo and 2 wins on Music Bank.

Rookie also peaked at No.4 on the Gaon Monthly Albums Chart for the month of February.

Track List:
Rookie
Little Little
Happily Ever After
Talk To Me
Body Talk
마지막 사랑 (Last Love)

I get strong Alice in Wonderland vibes from Rookie (or as they pronounce it Lookie), I think the blue dresses also help with that.  I love the styling for this album as well as the colours, it definitely works with their red image. As you can see from the main photo, I got Wendy's album cover which I was rather happy with as both Wendy and Yeri are my favourite members and Wendy has been one of my favourites since Red Velvet first came out. Rookie proves once again that Red Velvet are a very versatile group and the range of all 5 members vocals always get to shine with each track. I love that Wendy gets a solo track with 마지막 사랑 (Last Love), both Seulgi and Wendy have amazing voices but personally for me Seulgi tends to get more of a chance to shine, so I was really happy hearing Wendy get centre stage. From start to finish this album screams Red Velvet, each track is different from the last but you just know that it's a song sung by Red Velvet.
